The artists started to represent themselves in margin of the important scene, like an element of the decoration. Miss high models, costs of those at the beginning of career, desire of immortaliser in work… Titien (1477-1576) is regarded as the inventor of the kind. This new kind coincides with the recognition of the social status of the painter. This one is revalorized, the painter is not regarded more as a marginal person. The self-portrait becomes for the artist the reflection of his identity, the awakening of its artistic value. But the assertion of the social recognition often yields the place to the recognition of oneself. Many artists represented themselves throughout the life. Manner of revealing how time can have taken on an image that nobody really controls. Some self-portraits are upsetting, they testify to the anguish of the painter opposite a disease which progresses… the school Viennese of fantastic realism uses the self-portrait car to be carried by painting around the states of sound “ me out ”. In this direction the self-portrait becomes useful for the artist at the psychological level. This way of painting goes in the direction of self-analysis recommended by Freud. The fabrics in itself are true small psychoanalyzes and perhaps even sometimes of the therapies….
